I’ve never been elected, but I would guess there’s a lot of work to do. You know filling jobs, getting caught up on national problems, working on real policies to put forward. At least this is what normal president-elects do, but not Donald Trump.
Trump has such a need for adoration that he’s halting his duties (the few he’s been doing) and going on a massive state to state Thank You tour. Yes, you read that right. Like a rockstar, he is going on tour to see his adoring fans. And there will be merchandise sold, probably to recoup the personal spending he used campaigning. Of course, I’m curious as to how this tour is being funded. Would that be our tax dollars?
Sadly, I think people will come out in droves. We have created a monster.
Here’s the kicker and most important part. He’s only going to the swing states that supported him. Is this a foreshadowing of his presidency? If you support him, you get benefits, and if you don’t, then you are forgotten? Mike Huckabee hinted at this previously when some Republicans pulled their support of Trump.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the president does need to go out and see how “real” people are affected by these policies that Washington enacts, but putting on a show does nothing for real people. Standing at a podium and thanking people while they chant your name and prop up your ego does not solve the job crisis. It does not lower the cost of healthcare. It does not fix the education system. It fixes your ego, and that is it.
In electing Donald Trump, we have elected not only a narcissist but a narcissist who is addicted to the fame. Like an alcoholic, he has a need for people to love him, to cheer him, to chant his name. It’s one reason he is always on Twitter – instant gratification, but this is a serious problem. A man who has this much need to always be adored will spend more time thinking about his next tour than thinking about solving the country’s problems. This has already become obvious by his declining to sit in intelligence briefings. What else is going to get pushed aside in his quest for adoration?
What is it going to take for somone in Washington to stand up to this man?
