After watching the debate last night, I just feel sad. Hillary Clinton supporters are saying she won. Donald Trump supporters are saying he won, but I don’t think either of them did very well.
Yes, Trump landed some zingers. The crowd loved when he said he’d throw Clinton in jail. His supporters think this is awesome because she has committed criminal acts, but her supporters see this as overstepping authority and dictatorship. Now, I do believe action should be taken against Clinton. At the very least, she should be stripped of the ability to access classified information as Petraeus and others who did similar things were, which would deny her the presidency.
Her supporters say he was creepy by standing behind her. I didn’t even notice.
What stood out to me was the fact that neither of them answered a question with how they would do something. The moderators once again were biased, pressing Trump to answer “how” while letting Clinton slide on the same vague answers. They also did let her go over her time and didn’t allow him, but these are things that all Republicans have to deal with as moderators tend to be more Democrat.
When it came to the Supreme Court question, Clinton had a nice long-winded answer, but not one thing about justices following the constitution. Trump said he would appoint someone like Scalia and that he had a list of twenty that were favorable picks, then he changed the subject entirely to attack Clinton on something else. I wanted substance, but got very little.
Yet Fox News was shouting his praises after the debate, saying it was thick on policy and that he demolished Clinton. They said they had never seen such a one-sided debate. I had to wonder if they watched the same debate I did. Have we gotten so off-track that we no longer even notice if our candidate spews nothing substantive? Are we so divided that we hear nonsense and think it’s substance? If so, is there any hope moving forward?
This year has proven the most divisive election ever, and regardless of who you thought won last night, America lost. We will continue to lose as long as we keep supporting evil, corrupted candidates. It’s time to make history and deny them both.
